Innovative Wood Plastic Composites

General description: The Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) elements manufactured by ECODEK were installed by ACCIONA at Acciona’s Demopark in San Sebastián de los Reyes (Madrid, Spain). The demonstration activity deals with three different applications: decking, fencing and cladding.
Two different products were installed: the Rubber Wood Plastic Composites manufactured at preindustrial scale production (Pilot 4) and the Wood Plastic Composites manufactured at industrial scale production (Pilot 5). In the industrial process, recycled wood and plastics have been used as alternative polymers (based on the previous FISSAC preindustrial studies).

Read moreThe decking elements were installed on the precast concrete pavements manufactured during the project (Case Study 3). The cladding elements were installed as covering of the facade of two building modules already built-in Acciona’s Demopark. Finally, the fencing elements will be installed surrounding the two building modules.
The WPC installed elements are now exposed to real environmental conditions and the technical performances will be evaluated (monitoring physical and mechanical properties).
