Precast Concrete Elements (Pavement and New Jersey)

General description: Based on the optimized formulation and parameters set up in previous project activities, the best recipe of green concrete was upscaled. This concrete was elaborated with the new FISSAC blended eco-cement produced in Turkey as cement base and EAF (Electric Arc Furnace) slags (low alloy common iron production), as coarse aggregates, provided by OLABERRIA steel mill, located in Basque Country. The industrial manufacturing of the precast elements was deployed by a local precast concrete manufacturer called PREFABRICADOS ETXEBERRIA, S.L. in Zestoa (Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, Spain).

Precast green concrete pavement elements and New Jersey barriers were selected as construction applications for the Demonstration Case Study lead by ACCIONA.
The precast pavement elements were installed at Acciona’s Demopark surrounding two building modules. In total, 100 m2 of precast concrete pavements and two New Jersey barriers were installed.
Once installed, the precast pavement elements and New Jersey barriers will be exposed to real environmental conditions and the technical performance and stability of the new products will be evaluated with the measurement of different physical and mechanical properties.
